Notes from Howard Levy
Mozart Sonatas-We love playing these
pieces. They are like miniature operas or symphonies,
fall of character, pathos, and wit.
Spanish Serenade-I composed this piece
when I was 10 or 11 years old. When I met Fox in 1996,
1 realized that what I had written was merely the first
2 sections of a larger piece. I wrote the rest of it,
and the violin entrance starts at that point.
Manic and Buzz-I have written many short
solo violin pieces for Fox. These came in 2001 while I
was composing my Harmonica Concerto.
Cottonpatch Rag-Chris Siebold, guitar,
Eric Hochberg, bass, Howard, mandolin and harmonica. Fox
got into fiddle playing in the 1980's. She studied with
several of the greatest fiddlers of our times- Mark O'Connor
and Richard Greene, among others. She performed in buckskin
and a cowboy hat with The CS Okies, and has played fiddle
solos with The CSO and on recordings.
My One and Only Love-one of my favorite
ballads. I used to play it on piano with Jazz vocalist
Diane Holmes, whose soulful interpretation has stayed
with me. In this performance, I played piano and harmonica
simultaneously, one hand for each instrument
Cappuccino-I composed this as a solo
piano piece in the mid 1980's, inspired by the music of
Brazilian pianist/composer Cesar Camargo. I wrote the
violin part in 2004.
